Friends forever? Matt LeBlanc says reunion would be "sad"

“What would the story be?”, asks the actor who played Joey. “We all get together and what? Have coffee?”

FRIENDS STAR Matt LeBlanc has poured cold water on rumours of a reunion to make a movie based on the legendary TV sitcom, insisting that the idea of such a one-off would be “sad”.

LeBlanc (43) – who became a worldwide star through his role as Joey Tribbiani in the series and its ill-fated spinoff, ‘Joey’ – told Wenn.com that while he would happily meet up with his former co-stars, he could not imagine a storyline that would merit bringing them back together on screen.

“What would the story be? We all get together and what, have coffee?”, he asked. “It would be almost sad. It’s better to just imagine what those characters are doing now.”

He continued:

Friends was this magical, cool thing, like lightning in a bottle, and I feel superfortunate to have been part of it.

Rumours of a one-off Friends movie had circulated when the long-running TV series ended in 2004, and again in 2008 when a similar project for the Sex and the City franchise met with commercial success.

Though none of the show’s six main stars had previously indicated that a one-off TV special or a film had been discussed, the three female leads – Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox – had all said they were willing to film a one-off TV show set at Thanksgiving.

LeBlanc’s comments come as he prepares to return to acting following a five-year break; he has not worked since the cancellation of the ‘Joey’ spin-off, citing his divorce from actress Melissa McKnight and the medical condition of their daughter, thought to have had dysplasia.
