Unsurprisingly, the Donald Trump skit on Jools Holland's Hootenanny did not go down well

Was there a need?

MANY PEOPLE OPTED to stay in for New Year’s Eve and watch Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny (and were probably subjected to multiple others telling them that it’s pre-recorded. Yeah, worst kept secret in television history, that.)

Anyway, for the most part, the show went over well. George Ezra performed, Michael Bublé was there, as were Jess Glynne and Alesha Dixon.

Very good. However, there was one section of the show that seemed to irk a lot of people on Twitter. A “comedian” dressed as President Donald Trump, complete with fake wife Melania, rung in the new year with a little skit which viewers deemed to be wholly unnecessary.

Actually, that’s being polite about it – they absolutely hated it.

You can’t get BBC iPlayer in Ireland, which is just as well because I’m not sure if it’s worth watching back.

Let’s leave poorly executed attempts at satire in 2018, yeah?
