There could be more Twilight and Hunger Games movies on the horizon

Sorry.

IT HAS BEEN almost ten years since the first Twilight movie came out in cinemas.

In those ten years, the tween audience has matured and the fans who once called themselves ‘Twi-hards’ (apparently as in die-hards, not try-hards) have well and truly gotten over the mania that once surrounded the movies.

The obsession has fizzled out. Twilight isn’t exactly something most people would sit in and watch on a rainy day like a Disney film or their favourite childhood movie.

Is the interest even there for new Twilight movies?

Let’s not even mention the fact that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson would need to be brought back together by gunpoint for filming. Without them, would any remaining fans even care about a new Twilight film?

Apparently not satisfied with the box office earnings of the last film alone ($275 million), Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has hinted that he’s not quite done with the Twilight franchise. And the same goes for Hunger Games.

According to Variety, Feltheimer implied that the company would only go ahead with ‘fresh installments or spinoffs in the blockbuster series’.

So no need to worry about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart having killings with each other anyway.

During a quarterly earnings call with analysts, Feltheimer said “There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them.”

Which in other words probably means: there’s a lot more money to be made and we’re ready to make it.

So far the Twilight Saga has made almost $3.35 billion. The Hunger Games series just came short of $3 billion. When is enough enough?

Are any of us prepared for another generation of Twilight fans?
