WITH THE OSCAR nominations due at lunchtime today, some of the most talked about movies of the year haven’t even been released in Ireland yet.

So here’s your guide to when you can catch them at the cinema:

American Sniper – Tomorrow, 16th January

Clint Eastwood’s movie based on the true story of a sniper in the US military has put Bradley Cooper centre stage once again.

Whiplash – Tomorrow, 16th January

A movie that could be up for both Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (J.K Simmons took home the Golden Globe version of that gong last week). The story of a young jazz drummer played extremely well with audiences when it was released in the US last October.

Wild – Tomorrow, 16th January

Reese Witherspoon plays the lead role in this Nick Hornby-penned script based on the story of a woman who took a hike of more than a thousand miles around the Pacific coast of America in the 90s.  Laura Dern is also tipped to feature in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Inherent Vice – 30th January

Josh Brolin seems to be heavily tipped to contend for the Best Supporting Actor gong at the Awards in February. Inherent Vice is Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest release, and the Academy Award darling usually takes a few Oscar nominations each time he puts something out.

Selma – 6th February

This movie, based around Martin Luther King and the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights march is predicted to do well across the board at the Oscars in February. Can David Oyelowo, pictured above, take the Best Actor award?

Cake – 20th February

This movie has put so much buzz around Jennifer Aniston going into awards season. You’ll have to wait some time to catch it in Ireland though as it’s not out until February 20th. Aniston might be scooping the the Best Actress Oscar just two days later in L.A.

Still Alice – 6th March

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room - Los Angeles Source: AP/Press Association Images

Still Alice is by far the latest arrival on our screens – as the Oscars will be long over by the time it reaches us here. Still, its star Julianne Moore could be the winner of the Best Actress award by then, making it a must see. She has already won the same category at the Globes, so is a firm favourite to repeat at the Oscars.
