Brendan O'Connor's Pussy Riot interview goes international

“Inane chatshow banter”. Ouch.

“ARE YOU READY for the most awkward interview you’ll see all week?”.

Ouch.

That’s the opening line of a Dazed and Confused article about Brendan O’Connor’s interview with two members of Pussy Riot.

First though, you have to get past the headline…

So now it’s not just Ireland that’s cringing away in the aftermath of O’Connor’s chat with Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina on Saturday night.

Dazed and Confused picked up on all of the things that had us troubled, from O’Connor “repeatedly [referring] to Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina as ‘girls’” to:

…during an exchange between Tolokonnikova and her husband and translator, Peter, O’Connor cries, ”No time for a domestic, particularly not in Russian!” The entire interview finally climaxes in farce when he asks them what they think of Madonna, and if they believe she’s a freedom fighter “like them”.

And of course, the tweets have started. The international tweets.
