THREE PRIMARY SCHOOL teachers from Bray, Co Wicklow are on a mission to visit all Ireland’s 32 counties in 24 hours.

And tweet a photo of themselves from each one.

Patrick Kinsella, Dave Foley and Patrick Mullen are from St Peter’s in Bray, Co Wicklow. They set out from their home county this morning…

… after getting quite the send-off from their classes last week.

The journey is being sponsored by local businesses and individuals, in honour of their school becoming fully co-educational. And the aim is to buy some essential equipment, according to the school’s blog post:

With bigger numbers in the school our target is to raise money towards a new portable school stage for our Christmas Play, the highlight of the school year.

So far, they’re just three counties in, and they’re colouring in the map as they go.

Patrick Kinsella spoke to DailyEdge.ie as the team passed through Carlow.

We’re motoring along. We’ve just gone through Laois and hit Carlow, heading for Waterford. We knew the east coast wouldn’t be too bad. Onto the south… and then getting round the North is going to be a challenge.

They’re taking turns driving to beat fatigue.

The three teachers “wanted to do something different” as a fundraising effort, Kinsella added. The school will double in size next year as the new classes come on stream.

So at the time of writing, they’ve got 29 counties to go and about 23 hours to do it in. And they’re asking for your support:

Please show your support with a beep, tweet or  a wave if you spot them in your county.

The team are also welcoming donations to the fundraising effort, which has a target of €7,500. Anyone who is interested can donate via the school itself – contact details here.

You can follow their progress at the school’s Twitter account here.
