Here are some of the comfort dogs that are helping survivors of the Las Vegas mass shooting

Therapy dogs can be a huge help for people trying to process grief.

MANY PEOPLE WILL struggle immensely to come to terms with what happened in Las Vegas earlier this week.

With 58 dead, there are now 58 families and countless friends who had their lives changed without any warning on Sunday night. On top of that, a further 480 people were injured. It’s impossible to know how many people will suffer from grief and trauma following this act of terrorism.

In an attempt to try and soothe victims, a group called the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs are visiting survivors, families of victims and first responders who were affected by the shooting.

Tim Hetzner, the founder of LCC K-9 Comfort dogs told ABC News:

The key is for people to cry and for people to start talking about what they’re going through. It’s a part of the healing process. The great thing about the dogs is that they’re unconditional, confidential and safe.
Dogs have an incredible sense of when someone is hurting. They’ll just come and lay themselves into somebody’s lap.

The dogs have previously helped victims of shootings like Sandy Hook, as well as people whose lives were destroyed by Hurricane Harvey and Irma.

They have been especially helpful in comforting hospital staff, who have had little time off to relax since the shooting.

Buzzfeed wrote about the huge impact that the therapy dogs are having on everyone involved.

The whole week you’ve got dogs with patients who have been shot several times. And they see the dogs and they just melt.

What would we do without dogs?
