13 moments you might have missed from last night's American Music Awards

Rita Ora was not wearing a robe. Repeat: not wearing a robe.

APART FROM NIALL Horan’s ~interesting~ new hat making an appearance on stage, the American Music Awards in LA last night actually featured some standout moments not involving headwear.

1. Pink performed off the side of a 34-storey building, as you do

Vintage Pink.

2. The other performance that got people talking was Christina Aguilera’s tribute to Whitney Houston

3. The camera cut to Pink during the performance and it didn’t look like she was enjoying it all that much

4. But she then clarified that she actually loved it after getting a heap of comments on Twitter

Hmm.

5. Linkin Park won ‘Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock’ and dedicated the award to Chester Bennington on stage

6. Niall Horan won New Artist of the Year, and this was his acceptance speech

7. And DJ Khaled won for the ‘favorite song rap/hip-hop’ award for “I’m the One” – look at him there

8. The fact that Selena Gomez rocked up with short blonde hair caused a bit of a stir

The Bieber Effect.

9. Taylor Swift wasn’t there on the night but she sent this message for lifetime achievement winner Diana Ross

10. Lady Gaga wasn’t at the awards, but set up her own photoshoot to make everyone on Instagram think she was about to appear

She was all the way back in New York at the time.

11. Jared Leto had a slightly rambling introduction for the Artist of the Year award – eventually won by Bruno Mars

12. Demi Lovato brought transgender politician Danica Roem with her on the night

Demi posted a defiant message on Instagram:

Such an honor to have Danica Roem who will be the first out and seated transgender state legislator in U.S. history by my side tonight at the AMAs. Danica put up with a lot of hate and bullshit by people who said she couldn’t win but she did. Her story is so inspiring and I was so proud to have her next to me before the performance for #sorrynotsorry which is an unapologetic anthem to all haters out there.

13. And finally… Pink teamed up with Kelly Clarkson to pay tribute to all the victims of the many, many tragedies in 2017
