WE ALREADY LOVE the Garda Twitter account – always quick with the advice, and occasionally providing authoritative answers to the country’s burning questions.
They also provide longer updates – and offbeat pictures (like the one below) on their popular Facebook page.
In their latest online venture – the force have produced a short Youtube video focusing on home security.
Sergeants Kelvin Courtney and Alan Roughneen appear have commandeered a very nice looking semi-d in the suburbs as the venue for their instructional clip.
It’s all part of their new home security drive – and obviously, there’s a serious message.
We couldn’t help noting though – who-ever’s on editing duty, seems be very fond INDEED of this sort of transition…
It’s all very 1970s…
You can watch the full video below…
And while the editing is a little distracting – these are the messages they’re keen to get across:
- 2 out of 3 burglaries are residential burglaries
- There was a 4% rise in reported residential burglaries last year
- The most likely entry point for a burglar is a door – front door 27%, rear door 25%
- On average 1 in 5 intruders enter through an unsecured door or window; this rises to almost 1 in 3 in June
- There were over 200 cases of car keys fished from letterboxes in 2014
- Mid size cars (1400 cc to 160cc engines) are more likely to be taken
And they’re recommending the following:
- Secure all doors and windows
- Light up your home and use timer switches on lights for when you are out
- Store keys safely and away from windows and letterboxes
- Record details of valuables and don’t keep large cash amounts at home
- Use your alarm, even when you are at home
And – of course – keep those car keys away from the letterbox:
