Olympics – Rio 2016 (RTÉ2, 1pm-3.45am)

RTÉ2 has all the action from the opening day for you. Starting at 1pm, the coverage takes in singles tennis, men’s hockey (Ireland v India), beach volleyball, men’s gymnastics, and the first four swimming finals, amongst other events. Exciting! #RioOlympics2016

Saturday Night With Miriam (RTÉ One, 9.20pm)

Oh look, more controversy from the CBB house – actor Christopher Biggins has been removed from the programme after making comments ‘capable of causing great offence’.

Channel 5 has not revealed the particular comments that lead to his removal – an alleged transcript of a conversation between him and housemate Katie Waissel went viral, but was since confirmed to be a fake by the broadcaster:
