Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (BBC1, 9pm)

Gothic drama about two men destined to bring magic back to England. Strange comes to London to take up an apprenticeship with Mr Norrell, and the pair rescue a stricken ship. However, Mr Norrell is alarmed to see that Strange’s magic outshines his.

The Meaning of Life with Gay Byrne (RTÉ One, 10.30pm)

A repeat of Gay’s 2012 interview with Noel Gallagher, in which the musician reliably goes off on many things. Sure we’d expect nothing less.

Trance (Channel 4, 9pm)

Crime thriller starring James McAvoy as an art dealer who becomes involved with a plot to steal a valuable painting from his own auction house – but a blow to the head leaves him with amnesia. Rosario Dawson is the hypnotist tasked with bringing back his memories.

The pop manager and former X Factor judge has doubled down on his comments about Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. The pair have revealed a strong dislike for each other since Walsh left the show, with the boyband mogul telling The Sun on Sunday today:
