The 9 best pub snugs in Cork

Ahhh, that’s better.

IT’S WINTER. IT’S miserable. Pint by the fire?

1. The Castle Inn

Facebook Facebook

Possibly the city’s oldest remaining pub snug. Large enough for a small group of people and situated right in front of the bar, so no need to move from your seat to order.

2. Callanan’s

Snug by name and snug by nature. Tiny snug (comfortable for two, crowded for four) situated just inside the door. Old style wooden bench and beer keg seats with cushions.

3. Tom Barry’s

Stay snug outdoors in Tom Barry’s beer garden drinking booths. One even has its own fire to warm the cockles by.

4. An Spailpín Fanach

Has not just one but three snugs. A small one perfect for a tete-a-tete or to read a book alone; one you could squeeze a few people into; and one down the back where groups of trad musicians often perform.

5. The Oval

Spacious oval shaped snug just inside the door and a second snug seating area down the back by the fire. Snug pub throughout so you’re almost spoilt for choice.

6. The Long Valley

Old fashioned snug just inside the door. It’s actually a small room with a few tables and stools, big enough for a group of 10.

7. Sober Lane

Has two large snugs next to the bar for up to ten people (at a squeeze) which can be reserved and a smaller snug next to the smoking area for groups of five to seven.

8. Mutton Lane

Has a large snug to the left of the door with two tables for four and direct access to the bar.

9. Sin É

It might not have a snug as such, but you’ll certainly feel snug inside. Sin É is the epitome of the traditional warm Irish pub with cosy seating and a comfortable atmosphere.
