Legendary US blog Boing Boing has written a glowing review of Barry's Tea

Random.

AH, BARRY’S.

A quintessential Irish tea if ever there was one, and one that’s got a cult following around the world thanks to Irish shops and the gift of Amazon.

It’s probably going to get even more of a boost in the US after the well-known California-based website BoingBoing wrote a glowing review yesterday:

It IS pretty great.

It’s writer Jason Weisberger’s favourite tea:

Barry’s Gold Blend is my tea of choice. Ever since I first tried it, I’ve been hooked. Barry’s is a black tea that can really only be described as “none more black.” When combined with hot water it pretty instantly steeps.

He’s also obsessed with Barry’s unique steeping properties (the act of letting the flavour of the tea infuse into the water):

When Nietzche suggested staring into the abyss, he meant an over-steeped cup of Barry’s Gold Blend.

And he finishes with a word of warning for American tea drinkers:

Leaving Barry’s with the bag in for too long is rumored to summon a forth a tea golem from your cup. Seriously, bad and weird things happen when you over steep this tea.

Other Barry’s experts rowed into the comments, with advice to leave the bag in:

Barry’s Tea is quite the thing. I tend to oversteep anyway, but wow, with Barry’s tea it makes for a potent brew. I still love it anyway.

You’ll be grand, says another:

IMO, one bag of Barry’s makes one quart of tea just about perfectly in 10+ minutes, no need to worry about over-steeping boundaries.

This might be just the thing for Barry’s to finally crack the US tea market – and show them how it’s done.
