THE SHOCK OF the horrific shooting in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub is still being felt around the world today.

There is a solidarity vigil planned for Dublin this evening but bars and club nights from the LGBT scene around Ireland are actively rallying around the victims.

Landmark Dublin gay bar The George captured the mood when they wrote on Facebook last night:

we know that LGBT bars around the world provide a safe space for the members of our community and we will not let this senseless act of violence take that away from us

The proceeds from the well known gay club night Sunday Social in Dublin’s Odessa last night have been donated to the victims

Buzz O’Neill-Maxwell, promoter of the night told DailyEdge.ie that the community has really come together:

It’s called the community for a reason, we ARE a worldwide community and it’s heartening to see the community rally around those directly affected by what happened in Pulse nightclub.
Pulse nightclub is ALL of us. It’s every gay boy and girl from Fermanagh to Florida. And we stand WITH them in their despair today.

The George in Dublin set up a GoFundMe page for the victims yesterday

It was temporarily suspended last night, but The George are hopeful that it will be back up and running later this evening. They told DailyEdge.ie:

We are just waiting on verification from GoFundMe. Unfortunately they are based in San Diego, which is 8 hours behind us, so we don’t expect it back up until 5pm (9am their time)

At the moment they are directing people to the general victims’ fund – which has raised over $1.5 million in less than 24 hours from around the world

Ahead of a vigil in Cork on Wednesday, famous Cork gay bar Chambers has been showing their solidarity too

On Wednesday, they will be:

offering a safe and welcoming space for our community to mourn together after this tragic and senseless attack on our way of life.

There will be a similar vigil tomorrow evening in Belfast city centre, as well as a couple of vigils in Limerick.

Solidarity from all across the community today
