People are fuming that Selena Gomez got a TIME Magazine cover for her Instagram achievements

She was the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram.

SELENA GOMEZ IS having a pretty good week.

She’s one of 46 women listed in TIME Magazine‘s in ”FIRSTS” project for being the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram.

The projects aims to highlight women of various ages, ethnicities, political affiliations and sexual orientations who’re changing the world.

Not too shabby!

She joins Hillary Clinton, Ellen Degenres and Ava DuVernay in receiving the honour.

Sharing the news on Instagram (naturally), Selena said:

Not really sure how I got so lucky but thank you for highlighting the power of what we can and will always strive to be. I believe in the goodness in the land of the living. I hope this is just the beginning of more change.”

But, naturally, some people are giving out about it.

Chatter on the internet surrounding Sel’s cover is focusing on whether getting 100 million followers on Instagram is actually an achievement.

But she’s also been criticised for not using her vast platform to speak on issues like DACA or Hurricane Irma.

In her interview, Selena credited her mam for making her the woman that she is today.

My mom is the kind of person who understands what hard work is. She was still in high school when she had me. She worked multiple jobs. But she made me feel like I was capable of doing anything I wanted, maybe because she didn’t really have that opportunity.”

Aww.
