Shia LaBeouf has apologised for a racist rant at a black police officer following his arrest

The footage emerged yesterday.

SHIA LABEOUF HAS released a statement saying he is “deeply ashamed” after footage emerged of the actor directing a racist tirade towards a police officer over the weekend.

The arrest took place in Savannah, Georgia, last Saturday but the footage of the arrest for public drunkeness only emerged yesterday- featuring an expletive-filled rant:

In another clip following the arrest, LaBeouf could be heard saying that an officer is “going to hell” because he is black

In another clip, you can hear him claim that he is being arrested “for being white.”

LaBeouf was later released from jail after posting $7,000 (€6,140) bail.

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department released a statement over the weekend describing the arrest:

Around 4:00 a.m., Shia LaBeouf, 31, approached a bystander and an SCMPD officer near the intersection of Barnard Street and West St. Julian Street, asking for a cigarette. When LaBeouf wasn’t given a cigarette, he became disorderly, using profanities and vulgar language in front of the women and children present. He was told to leave the area and refused, becoming aggressive toward the officer.
When the officer attempted to place LaBeouf under arrest, LaBeouf ran to a nearby hotel. LaBeouf was arrested in the hotel lobby, where his disorderly behavior continued.

Following the footage coming to light, LaBeouf released a statement on Twitter late last night

He said he was “deeply ashamed” of his behaviour and that he’s “been struggling with addiction publicly for far too long.” It reads:

I am deeply ashamed of my behavior and make no excuse for it. I don’t know if these statements are too frequent, or not shared often enough, but I am certain that my actions warrant a very sincere apology to the arresting officers, and I am grateful for their restraint. The severity of my behavior is not lost on me.
My outright disrespect for authority is problematic to say the least, and completely destructive to say the worst. It is a new low. A low I hope is a bottom. I have been struggling with addiction publicly for too long, and I am actively taking steps toward securing my sobriety and hope I can be forgiven for my mistakes.

LaBeouf is in the Savannah area filming his new movie, The Peanut Butter Falcon, which also stars Dakota Johnson.
