Tom Hanks LOVES Maeve Binchy. As he very well should.

Talking about his book Uncommon Type in London recently, he remembered the time he read Light A Penny Candle on holiday:

I fell in love with it. We all went nuts for her and I read Tara Road, Circle of Friends – I ended up going on a massive Maeve Binchy thing. I actually wrote her a fan letter and I got a letter back.

“I thought I should get myself to Dublin and have a nice cup of tea with Maeve,” he said. Oh god, imagine. (Irish Independent)

Sonya Lennon says Brendan Courtney ‘split the difference’ with her when it emerged he was being paid more for their gig on Off The Rails.

The designers presented the RTÉ show in 2008 – Sonya discovered that they were not getting paid equally and ‘flagged it’ with their bosses. She told the Herald:

I was very lucky that I was working with a man who really valued equality in all ways… Brendan said, “I will split the difference” and that’s what happened.
