Twitter is clogging timelines with favourites and people are not impressed

The website’s latest experiment is not a hit with users.

TWITTER IS EXPERIMENTING with a new system whereby favourites show up in timelines in the same manner as retweets. And users aren’t happy about it.

According to The Next Web, the feature was rolled out a few weeks ago and a significant number of Twitter users have seen their timelines become clogged with favourites.

A quick glance at Twitter reveals that the reaction to the new feature is practically universally negative.

Even Josh Groban and Anna Kendrick are railing against it.

Some point out that the favourite and retweet features serve different purposes.

While others note that what they favourite is not something they necessarily want shared with their followers.

While Twitter has yet to address this latest experiment, The Next Web notes that they typically point media to this blog post, which states:

We also experiment with features that may never be released to everyone who uses Twitter. Those experiments are perhaps even more valuable because they help us decide what not to do –– which is important as we work to keep Twitter simple while improving the user experience. Ultimately, our goal is to learn and keep making the product better; we aren’t necessarily looking to launch all of the experiments we roll out.

If the online reaction is anything to go by, we would say that this feature is not one to pursue, Twitter.
