Weird Wide Web: the week in online oddities

Some of the internet’s best offerings in social media, tech, science and weird news.

WELCOME TO THE Weird Wide Web – where we take a look at some of the internet’s best offerings in social media, tech, science and weird news.

Interactive Print

Our online, digitised lives mean that many of us will be familiar with the nagging feeling that crops up when flicking through a magazine or newspaper – when it’s impossible to bookmark, tweet, or otherwise interact with the information.

That’s where Layar comes in; the new technology allows you to like, watch and download information – and buy products – from print using your smartphone.

It’s not where you’ve been, it’s where you’re going…

A little bird

The Twitter bird has flown the nest (sorry) only to be replaced by a newer, shinier, more streamlined version (with a haircut). Revealing the bird’s new incarnation, Creative Director Dough Bowman said the new design was based on three sets of overlapping circles “similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends”.

But, with all this focus on appearances, does anyone even remember the bird’s name?

Ghost Radar

Step away from Derek Acorah, put down the electro-magnetic-detector-thingy: the ultimate in ghost hunting equipment has arrived. In the form of an app, natch.

Ghost Radar Legacy claims to use your smartphone’s hardware to the immediate area for “quantum fluctuations” and process that information back to you in word form.

What more could ask for (apart from a bit of sense)?
