DUBLIN ZOO’S YOUNGEST rhino, Jabari, will meet his father, Chaka, for the first time on RTÉ’s The Zoo this evening.

Helen Clarke-Benett, team leader from the African Plains in Dublin Zoo, said the introduction between Jabari and Chaka “couldn’t have gone better”.

Jabari tried to mock fight with his father, but Chaka was unfazed by this and was very placid and relaxed with the youngster.

Jabari met his father when he was just four weeks old.

He is almost one year old now and has “settled nicely into the herd and likes to play and mock spar with the other rhinos”.

A spokesperson for Dublin Zoo said it’s customary for rhino calves to be kept away from their fathers for a few weeks so they can “build up strength and get used to the surroundings with their mothers”.

The above footage was filmed last year and shows Jabari with his mother.
