CHARLEVILLE LODGE HOTEL in Phibsborough doesn’t beat around the bush.
Responding to criticism of room rates for the nights of the Ed Sheeran concerns in Croke Park this July, the manager of the hotel’s Facebook page has taken no prisoners.
In a lengthy post, it’s pointed out that:
If you are expecting reduced rates on these nights, you need your head examined more than I do.
The post goes on to recommend that those who are “not happy to pay the going rate on the nights of the concerts” and points them in the direction of some charities who might have availability – St Vincent De Paul, Dublin Simon Community, DSPCA etc.

If you are going to book a room with us, I suggest you do it quickly on our website www.charlevillelodge.ie. Don’t come running back to me in a few day’s time when your only options are to stay in a dog kennel or in a €900 room in The Shelbourne where the curtains are made out of Belgian chocolate and one of the Queen’s late, taxidermied corgis is sitting at the base of your bed. The choice is yours folks.
The post has caused some mild consternation among Facebook users, with comments like:
Whoever does the social networking and marketing needs to be sacked straight away. Wow. I can’t believe a business is actually stupid and ignorant enough to write a post like this.

Good lord people if ye don’t wanna stay then don’t stay!??? Why get your undies in a twist about it. That how much it is to stay and if your can’t afford it well thats tough luck. Get over it and buy a Tent. I can’t afford to go out for a meal, doesn’t mean I’m gonna boycott and bad mouth all my local restaurants for not feeding me for a budget!!! Cop on. Gotta love this hotel. They take absolutely no sh*t. Of course they’re going to put up prices. They’re in business to make money, not to give you lot cheap hotel rooms. F**kin’ saps.
Charleville Lodge has form in this area. Previously they took on potential customers threatening to use Travel Review Threats to get cheaper rooms.
They were also forced to apologise for posting on Facebook that the Garth Brooks gigs were going ahead (when they weren’t). The apology did end by telling people to “get a life” though. Ouch.
