POSTNATAL DEPRESSION IS a condition that affects at least one in every ten women after childbirth.

That figure only counts the self-reported cases, so it’s likely that it affects many more who do not realise or, due to the nature of the condition, are too afraid to mention it to doctors.

It can affect anyone. Even Chrissy Teigen, whose family life comes off as absolutely idyllic online. In an interview with US Weekly, the model shared that she had a particularly difficult time with postnatal depression when Luna was born, but John helped her immensely.

Teigen, who relied on IVF treatments to get pregnant told the magazine:

I lost all interest in everything. I couldn’t get out of bed. I kept all my pajamas in the pantry because I didn’t want to go upstairs. It’s really hard to know how privileged you are and still feel frustrated, angry and lonely. It makes you feel like more of a bitch.

She skipped out on date nights and struggled to do things as simple as eating.

There was no light, no way of seeing myself out.

However, eventually after seeking medical assistance, she managed to recover.

John was very supportive and wanted to help. Together they visited a doctor. John commented that “It’s a struggle to be a good partner and help. I think the key for us was finally understanding what was happening and getting help.”

The pair are now planning on expanding their family, with Teigen commenting on how much she loves John. “How would I not want to expand my family with this beautiful person? He’s just everything.”

Despite that, the No. 1 reason she will never divorce John is because “I refuse to see another woman with my baby.”

Jokes aside (she explained that her constant deprecation of John is because he’s “so perfect”),  Teigen commented that “Kids, friends and work are hard, but John is the easiest part of everything.”
