Marty Whelan reveals he got hair transplant to save his career

The Winning Streak presenter felt pressure to look good for the cameras.

LIKE THE GREAT Louis Walsh before him, veteran TV and radio presenter Marty Whelan has revealed that he got a secret hair transplant last year due to pressures in the industry.

The 57-year-old said that he first noticed he was balding in his 30s, and recently decided to do something about it due to the nature of his work.

You’re conscious that you need to look as best you can when you work in television. When you’re in makeup or getting ready to go on to a show on television and you’re concious of lights and bald patches, you think you’ve gotta sort this out.

Here’s what follicly challenged Marty looked like previous to his two procedures in December 2012 and August 2013:

Well sure look at him now. A fine head of hair if we ever saw one.

Result.

He’s delighted with his new locks, claiming to feel a lot “calmer” after it all.

For me, I feel better about me. I’m not a vain person, but I am in an industry that looks at you every 12 months and says, hmmm.

But we knew Marty, we all knew.
