period party

This mam threw her daughter a 'period party' because she was worried about starting her period

There was a cake that said ‘Congrats on your period’. YES.

FOR YOUNG GALS, starting your period can be very overwhelming, but this girl’s family ensured it was a positive experience for her.

Shelly Lee from Florida recently surprised her 12-year-old daughter Brooke with a ‘period party’, complete with gifts of tampons and a cake:

“Congrats on your period.” LOL.

Shelly told Buzzfeed that she organised the party so Brooke wouldn’t be so anxious about her period. “I wanted to make this event a little more fun,” she said.

Brooke’s cousin Autumn tweeted pictures from the party, which were shared by thousands of people – she told Mashable that Brooke was not a bit embarrassed by the party, and it was “kinda normal” for their family to go all out like this.

I think that this story teaches girls, and even guys, that periods aren’t a horrible or embarrassing thing. It’s a milestone and a big part of a girl’s life.

Many people have praised Brooke’s mam for letting her know that your period is nothing to be embarrassed about:
