Yes, people are actually taking selfies at the Sydney siege

The images have sparked outrage on Twitter.

AS AN ARMED hostage situation unfolded at a Sydney café overnight, some bystanders at the police cordon had one reaction.

Take a selfie.

A number of people took the opportunity to post pictures of themselves enjoying the action. This man posted his with the hashtag #hostagesituationselfie.

Buzzfeed reporter Mark Di Stefano tweeted this photo of the scene at the police cordon:

One guy even brought a selfie stick.

And Australian news outlet ABC reported that some people were bringing beers to the police perimeter.

Elsewhere on Twitter – where the #IllRideWithYou hashtag has also taken off as users express solidarity over fears for Muslims’ safety – the selfie images have sparked outrage.
