Anne Hathaway and James Franco set to host Oscars

Academy Awards announce hosts of next Oscar ceremony amid speculation both could be nominated.

ACTORS ANNE HATHAWAY and James Franco have been named as the next hosts of the Academy Awards.

The Oscars are due to be held on 27 February, and both actors have been tipped for award nominations themselves.

The Guardian writes that Hathaway could be favoured for her role in the romance Love and Other Drugs, while Franco could be nominated for his party in the drama 127 Hours.

The choice of hosts could indicate producers’ interest in building up a larger younger audience for the event.

The Academy Awards said in a statement that the actors “personify the next generation of Hollywood icons— fresh, exciting and multi-talented”.

Last year’s awards also had an acting duo at the helm: Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

Will Hathaway and Franco be able to match their opening sequence to the ceremony?

Hathaway recently appeared in a Saturday Night Live sketch as Katie Holmes (halfway through clip):
