10 of the best BBQ joints in Dublin

… because you’re too lazy to have your own.

IT’S GONNA BE a nice weekend in the capital city. Why not enjoy some nice barbecue food, without the hassle of actually having a barbecue?

Excellent. In no particular order…

1. Bison Bar, Wellington Quay

The unrelenting king of BBQ in Dublin. There’s nothing better than a hayping of their slow cooked pulled pork, side of chips and burned beans with chunks of meat in them, all drizzled with the magic that is the BBQ sauce.

Get in.

2. Pitt Bros, George’s Street

Stuff your face with their perfectly-cooked meat and lashings of mac and cheese, before heading over to pull your own 99 for dessert. Team with their home brew and life doesn’t really get any better, does it?

3. Aussie BBQ, Richmond St

The original and still one of the greatest. Aussie BBQ has been known to put even the biggest of eaters into a long lasting food coma. Get the prawn skewers and a burger.

4. Blackbird, Rathmines

If you’re looking for that homecooked feel without actually having to cook at home, head to Blackbird for a slap up meal of a burger from the barbie, all the side trimmings, and a can of beer for a measly tenner. Where would you be going?

5. Smokin Bones, Dame Street

This is the new kid on the block, and slowly starting to creep up on its older siblings. It’s in the handiest spot in town AND the oreo cookie pie is the perfect accompaniment. Definitely one of the smokiest bbq flavours in Dublin.

6. Rio Rodizio, Ranelagh

These guys know their meat. This Brazilian joint is the place to go for a good picanha, a cut of meat they consider to be the absolute best. The salad bar is also a saviour so you can feel like you’re actually kinda sorta being healthy. Their red leave me alone and green feed me table carding system is also a blessing.

7. Mongolian BBQ, Temple Bar

For barbecue taste with a Mongolian twist. This is BBQ but not like you know it. Everything is made freshly in front of you and the buffet gives you a massive choice from everything down to the spices and sauce. It’s delicious, fresh, healthy enough, and a bargain to boot.

8. My Meat Wagon, Smithfield

If you ignore the fact that they serve their chips in a trolley, this is one serious feed of BBQ goodness. Choose from a rake of craft beers to accompany your meal, and don’t skimp on the beans. They are deeelicious.

9. Brasserie 66

Not strictly a joint, but they do a great BBQ feast if you’re looking for something a little posher. Think chargrilled asparagus, roasted monkfish, and smoked old spot pork chop.

10. Firepit, Aungier Street

If you’re looking for decent BBQ goodness, fast, Firepit’s offerings will go down a treat. No frills, and mainly takeaway, this might just be the perfect lunch option if you have a hankering for a barbecue. It’s also BYOB in the evenings.
