FORGET ABOUT PLANKING. Forget about owling. Forget about cone-ing, or even Leisure Diving. The latest meme that you have to know about – for fear of looking ill-informed when discussing such matters, or something – is ‘Horsemaning’.
A more communal meme than others, horsemaning will require the help of a friend – creating the pictorial illusion that your head, while detached from your body, is surviving happily elsewhere – normally in your body’s hands.
Unlike with most memes, however, horsemaning (or sometimes ‘horsemanning’) apparently has origins long pre-dating the itself – and as a meme stretches back almost a century.
Seemingly inspired by the Headless Horseman (a character in Irving Washington’s ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, first published in 1820), the stunt was apparently all the rage back in the 1920s – when, as a departure from traditional family portraits, children would pose as if one was a head without a body, and the other a body without a head.
Check out some of our favourite examples below.
