USUALLY A MAN dressed as a gimp would be cause for concern.
Not so with The Gimp Man of Essex.
What’s his deal?
The enigmatic figure is wandering around Essex, taking photos with locals and raising money for a mental health charity. He outlines his mission as thus:
Making an appearance at an Essex town near you very soon! This black latex clad figure is out to cheer people up from the drudgery of everyday life! Please stop and say hello and have a picture taken with him!
In an interview with the BBC, the man said he wanted to “start a debate” and challenge stereotypes. Gimp stereotypes, that is.
Some people make assumptions that I am a paedophile or a pervert, and think I must be into some horrible things. I’m adult enough to realise people look at the negatives in everything. But people are a lot more open minded nowadays. And at the end of the day, you can walk along the beach and see a lot more than I’m exposing!
Look at him go.
So far, he has raised £711 through his JustGiving fundraising page.
The comments are resoundingly positive, too.
Especially this one.
Right then.
