News of the Unscrews: NotW sign disappears from Wapping

The end of the World at Wapping…

IT WAS SHUT down for good nearly a week ago but it appears only in the last day or two has the News of the World sign from the entrance to News International at Wapping in London been taken down for good.

The victims of phone hacking by the newspaper will probably revel in its demise. Others will be sad to see the back of the 168-year-old tabloid that was shut down by its owners the Murdoch family last week following revelations that it hacked into the phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

Amid a media offensive by Rupert Murdoch and his company News International this weekend, the sign has come down and the News of the World at Wapping is no more.

Rumours abound as to what might follow with many expecting that a Sun on Sunday title will be launched, possibly as soon as August.

Meanwhile, as ever more details about the hacking scandal emerge, it is speculated by the Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff on Twitter today that the New York Times will have more “juicy revelations” about the News of the World hacking scandal in its paper tomorrow.
