Think before you tweet: sports stars all a-Twitter

As one GAA star prepares to explain his decision to tweet his ‘disillusionment’ on TV tomorrow, we click back through more controversial updates.

RTÉ HAVE ANNOUNCED that Laois footballer MJ Tierney will be a guest on their new mid-week GAA magazine programme, The Committee Room.

Tierney was an unused sub in the game with Dublin at Croke Park on Sunday. His one-word tweet: disillisioned, casued some controversy.

And he has since defended this right to air his grievances on the website, lashing out at the Sunday Game.

RTÉ pundit Kevin McStay suggested that the Laois forward should keep his opinions to himself after Des Cahill – a Twitter follower of Tierney’s – read out the message.

He’s not the first athlete to Tweet himself into controversy. You can do a lot of damage with 140 characters as these sports stars soon realised.
