MAKING YOUR MARK on a city should be the goal of all intrepid travellers out there, but this is taking things a little too far.
Two American tourists in Italy’s capital city of Rome were taking a tour of the famous Colosseum. The two women, aged 21 and 25, left the tour and began scratching their initials in the ancient walls before taking a selfie in front of it – as first reported by Italian newspaper La Stampa.
Here’s the wall in question:
According to The Guardian, they managed to get the J and an N out before they were caught by the Italian Police.
The women may now have to go in front of a judge this week, but have apologised for the inciden, sayingt:
We apologize for what we did. We regret it, but we did not imagine it was something so serious. We’ll remember for a lifetime.
The news hasn’t exactly gone down well online
The quest for the most original tourist selfie continues.
