WATCH: Angry Israeli MP throws water over an opponent

Oireachtas committee meetings are never quite as raucous as those of the Israeli Knesset…

IT’S FAIR TO SAY that Oireachtas committee meetings will never be quite as emotive as this one.

An angry dispute in the education committee of the Israeli Knesset ended with one female MP throwing a cup of water over a political opponent in Israel earlier today.

Haaretz explains that the dispute arose after a member of the ruling Likud party called for the sacking of the principal in an Israel-Arab high school who had taken his students to a human rights march in Tel Aviv last month.

Labour member Raleb Majadele took issue with that suggestion, prompting ire from Anastassia Michaeli of the nationalist Yisrael Beineitu party – a former beauty queen in her native Russia.

“You are marching against the state!”, she said, prompting Majadele to yell, “Shut up!”.

As Michaeli got up to leave the room, she stopped at a neighbour’s desk to fill up a glass of water – throwing it over Madejele before storming out.

Sky News says that although water-throwing is an usually emotive response, raucous behaviour in the Knesset.
