An Irishman's joke BBC breaking news ticker has become a huge meme

It sums up the horror of every news story these days.

PEOPLE ARE NOW, understandably, calling their phones “the fresh horror device” – because every time you unlock it there’s another nugget of nightmarish news awaiting you.

And the same goes for breaking news tickers these days.

So Irish Twitter user @emmetbroaders came up with a new universal breaking news banner for all 2017 occasions

Once he tweeted it out yesterday afternoon it quickly started picking up thousands of retweets.

And other accounts took it and it went even more viral

In the process becoming a massive meme in less than 24 hours

Culminating in the image hitting the front page of Reddit overnight – with nearly 100,000 upvotes

Speaking to DailyEdge.ie, he says that the inspiration behind it was simple:

I’d just like the news to stop
