Ben Affleck apologised to One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton after she revealed that he groped her in 2003

Affleck’s statement about Harvey Weinstein was not well received.

YESTERDAY BEN AFFLECK took to Twitter to make a statement about Harvey Weinstein after numerous women spoke out about being sexually assaulted by the producer.

Here is that statement:

Writing that the allegations made him sick, Affleck said “We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behaviour when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power.”

Rose McGowan, best known from her role as Paige in TV series Charmed, branded Affleck a liar after he shared this statement on Twitter and Facebook.

McGowan settled with Weinstein in 1997 after an incident in a hotel room.

In 2015 she mentioned but could not name a ‘serial predator’ in the industry who is “often whispered about but never exposed” while speaking to Buzzfeed.

In 2016, she made reference to a sexual assault that she did not report after a criminal attorney told her she’d “never win against the studio head” after she had done a sex scene in a film.

I remember wanting to cry that day. Well everyday really. Every day I filmed this movie. I was pressured into doing it for all the wrong reasons ( big @UTA agentess known for her cruelty and I believe hatred of beautiful young women.) This woman who was meant to develop and further my career pushed me to do my first studio film. It was called Ready to Rumble and it was expected to be a hit. I threw the script in the trash 3 times. But I hadn't worked since the sexual assault. I didn't want to do this movie. It was stupid as hell. I was told by my agent that if I did this big studio film @warnerbros would put me in the next Clint Eastwood film. It wasn't a bad set, I just didn't want to there. Every day I was pushed to be an over the top sex object and nothing else. Written by basics, captured and filmed by a man, produced by men, edited by a man, music by men, sold to theaters by men and on your screens courtesy of men. And I was sold into it by a woman. On set I mostly tried to project out of my body and into a safe place on the astral plane. Look at what my eyes say in this picture. You may see a hot young chick, I see reinforcement of stereotypes, horrible career management, and personal vacancy. While my body was left on earth and got stuck being embarrassed, not valued and to serve as only the sexy object in a film. Sent to tittilate young boys and make girls aspire to be me cos I turned their boy on. See how that works? In my book BRAVE, I am pulling back the iron curtain. This is not a tell. This is a tell it how it is. - Rose McGowan 'excerpt from BRAVE the book' coming in February @harperonebooks LINK for pre-order in bio ☝️☝️ #brave #rosearmy #anarmyofthought

Last week she took to Twitter writing “Anyone who does business with __ is complicit. And deep down you know you are even dirtier. Cleanse yourselves.” She did not name the person she was talking about.

Following Affleck’s statement, she alleged that Affleck knew what happened to her and presumably Weinstein’s other victims.

She then tweeted “YOU ALL KNEW” with a quote by Lawrence Schiller.

Vanity Fair wrote that McGowan “may never formally name Weinstein for a variety of reasons- including her alleged settlement [but] her tweets have made it clear that she has a personal connection to the Weinstein allegations.”

McGowan was not the only person who appeared to be critical of Ben Affleck after his statement. Some Twitter users called Affleck out for not making a similar statement after his brother Casey settled sexual assault allegations outside of court in 2010.

However, former One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton was more shocked than anybody to see Affleck’s statement.

A fan of the actress wrote on Twitter that Ben Affleck “grabbed Hilarie Burton’s breasts on TRL once. Everyone forgot though.”

Three hours later, Hilarie Burton replied “I didn’t forget.”

After Burton spoke out about the incident – 14 years after it happened on live TV – Affleck apologised on Twitter.

Several media outlets including Forbes have reached out to Affleck’s reps for additional comments but have yet to receive a response. Affleck has yet to acknowledge any of Rose McGowan’s tweets that appear to be aimed at him.

Fans of Burton are now calling on anyone who accused the actress of lying to apologise to her now that Affleck has admitted his wrongdoing.
