Dermot Morgan's son backs bid for Father Ted to feature in Captain America movie

You can vote for Ted and co to appear in the superhero sequel.

NO, YOU’RE NOT seeing things, there really is a chance for Father Ted to be featured in the new Captain America film.

RadioTimes.com is running a poll to see which much-loved TV show will feature in the superhero sequel The Winter Soldier.

The winning show will appear in a sequence where Captain America is filled in about the things he’s missed while he was in a 65-year ice coma.

And Father Ted could be one of those things!

Rob Morgan, son of Dermot Morgan told DailyEdge.ie that seeing Father Ted top the poll would be a thrill for a couple of reasons:

I would have loved to have seen what Dermot would have gone on to do if we hadn’t lost him so early. Appearing in Captain America would also tie in nicely with the Going to America Father Ted episode.
I’d also obviously love if it was Ted for personal reasons.

Father Ted is currently at third place in the poll behind Doctor Who and Sherlock, while Mrs Brown’s Boys, Downton Abbey, The Only Way is Essex and Fawlty Towers are also in the running.

Morgan says if Father Ted had to lose out to something, he’d rather it was the likes of Doctor Who or Sherlock.

One’s a vintage show and the other is about a vintage character. I’d be horrified if something with TOWIE or Mrs Brown’s Boys was to win.

Appearing in the Captain America sequel would once again expose Father Ted to global audiences, and Morgan said that he knows there are already dedicated Ted fans around the world.

We had a guy who came to Tedfest all the way from Missouri last year and he’s coming again this year.

Tedfest is in its eighth year and takes place at the end of February on Inis Mór off the coast of Galway.

The capacity of the five day event is limited every day to between 250 and 300 people as, Morgan says, “the island just can’t cater for any more”.

It’s not like a regular TV convention, it’s all done in the spirit of the show. This year we have a loveliest horse competition, and last year we had the King of the Sheep.
