Girls Aloud announce split on Twitter

The group said they had come to “the end of our incredible time together”.

GIRLS ALOUD HAVE announced that they will split, just hours after finishing a successful greatest hits tour.

In a statement on Twitter, they said: “We have now come to the end of our incredible time together.”

The tweet – posted shortly after Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts came off stage at a show in Liverpool – read:

Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together . Love you lots.

(OK, it needed a TwitLonger.)

Girl Aloud formed in 2002 on the TV show Popstars: The Rivals. At least one person still isn’t over it:

They did not perform for three years before announcing a new tour in October last year, but never formally announced a split.

Let’s take a trip back to 2002, shall we?
