Matthew McConaughey says he wants to send his kids to the Gaeltacht

Ceart go leor, ceart go leor, ceart go leor…

OSCAR WINNER MATTHEW McConaughey has revealed he plans on packing his kids off to the Gaeltacht once they’re old enough. Yes, really.

In a new interview with the Irish Sun, he spoke of his pride in his Irish background, which comes from his mother Mary Kathleen McCabe’s side.

The actor has three children with wife Camilla Alves, and says he considers them to be Brazilian-Irish.

While Camilla has taught them about Brazilian culture and has them speaking Portuguese, Matthew has his own plans:

I want them reading the literature, I want Riverdancing, I want them saying ‘grand’…
When they’re older, I want to send them to that Irish language summer camp you guys do, it’s like a rite of passage for you guys, isn’t it? I want them fluent – which means I gotta do a crash course too.

A month in the middle of nowhere with a no-nonsense bean an tí will certainly be a departure from the Hollywood lifestyle, but Matthew says living in Dublin for a summer in 2001 did him the world of good.

That was paradise to me… I made fast friends, I sang, I danced. Heard stories and tales and jokes and anecdotes I’ll remember for a lifetime. I was back with my people.

Well, McConaughey children – our advice to you is to get cracking on the Modh Coinníollach now. You can thank us later.
