Here's what you need to know about Michelle Visage, the Ireland's Got Talent judge that has everyone buzzing

It’s time to get acquainted with Michelle Visage, Ireland.

YESTERDAY’S TV3 LAUNCH revealed that there are two types of people in Ireland: people who are overjoyed at the news that Michelle Visage is going to be a judge on Ireland’s Got Talent and people who have no idea who she is.

For those of you who don’t know who Michelle Visage is and why this is a tremendously big deal, allow us to explain…

Who is Michelle Visage?

Michelle Visage is an American… personality. She started out in the girl group Seduction in 1988. Later in her career, she became RuPaul’s sidekick on The RuPaul Show. She’s arguably best known for her role as judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, which she has been a part of since 2011.

She has also commentated on the Eurovision Song Contest for US audiences. She’s their Marty Whelan! Kind of.

Isn’t that quite a high profile hire for TV3?

Yes and no. Irish talent shows have a history of hiring at least one semi-famous non-Irish judge – Jamelia, Michelle Heaton and Rachel Stevens, for instance. (Incidentally, TV3 have also hired Denise Van Outen as a judge on Ireland’s Got Talent.)

Additionally, Michelle Visage has been a contestant on Channel 5′s Celebrity Big Brother and Ireland’s Got Talent is bound to be far less grim.

And why are people excited?

Because we as a nation should be honoured that anyone Drag Race-adjacent would grace us with their presence.

Bring it on.
