Welcome to the Forty Foot ABSOLUT Fringe 2011

6 ABSOLUT Fringe shows to bring your ma to

Does your mother deserve a night out? Here are some choices from the last week of the Fringe in Dublin that will have her spellbound.

ONE OF THE joys of the Fringe is discovering the unexpected. But sometimes you just want to know what’s suitable to bring your mother to.

The kind folks at the festival have listed a few performances that you’d be happy to show the mammy…

All Things Considered, It’s a Nice Place to Start: What happens when you send ‘thank you’ cards to strangers? How to change the world in a small way… (Project Arts Centre, tomorrow to Saturday at 1pm; also at 3.30pm on Saturday).

The Sock Exchange: Maverick menders and darlings of darning will like these mass make-and-mend events that teach us the value of things before we throw them out. It’s exactly what your mother has been telling you all these years. (ABSOLUT Fringe Box Office, Filmbase, Curved Street, Temple Bar, Thursday to Sunday at 10am).

The Yellow Wallpaper: A young woman is trapped in an attic room and slowly falls into madness. Dark but so, so gripping. (Smock Alley Theatre, tonight 8.15pm; tomorrow, 1pm and 8.15pm; Thursday and Friday, 8.15pm; Saturday, 1pm and 8.15pm).

Welcome to the Forty Foot: Niamh McCann discovers the secrets and intimacies of the daily dive into the famous Forty Foot bathing area in Dun Laoghaire. Joyful. (The New Theatre, today and every day to Saturday at 6pm).

It’s Your Turn To Change Daddy: Mary and Paddy meet in 1958, marry, have children… a lot of children. These are their stories – and their communal story.

Seeing and Dreaming: How would you spend your last day? Touching and thought-provoking.

The ABSOLUT Fringe box office is at 1850 374 643 or click on any of the show titles above to link through to their booking page.
