"I feel like the Rose of Tralee" - Irish comedian Aisling Bea wins big in Edinburgh
The coveted So You Think You’re Funny? prize has previously been won by David O’Doherty, Dylan Moran and Peter Kay.

IRISH COMEDIAN AISLING Bea has become only the second woman ever to win the So You Think You’re Funny Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Bea follows in the footsteps of fellow Irish comedians David O’Doherty, Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran.

The last woman to win the award was Scotland’s Rhona Cameron, who took the prize twenty years ago.

Bea has been tweeting about her win saying that after her win was announced she:

… sat by some bins, had a cry and rang my mammy.

The award, which is described by the BBC as ‘coveted’, is given by the Glided Balloon venue, was judged by Ruby Wax who said that Bea was the obvious winner.

She beat out eight other comedians and will now travel to perform at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival.

According to Chortle comedy quide Bea said that the only think she’s ever won before was a hamper in a dairy raffle, and that she forgot to thank her mother that time, so she made sure to thank her last night.

She also tweeted her excitement:

Bea is currently appearing in Sharon Horgan’s new BBC sitcom Dead Boss, and has previously appeared in The Savage Eye, Fair City. Later this year she’ll feature in the second series of RTÉ’s comedy drama Trivia and ITV drama The Town.

Here she is in action:
