Amateur astronomer captures ‘near-miss’ asteroid (video)

Asteroid was expected to come within about 28,000 miles of earth today.

AMATEUR ASTRONOMER PATRICK Wiggins has created a short video comprising images he captured of an asteroid that passed close to earth this morning.

The asteroid was first discovered by astronomers over the weekend, and is believed to have measured between 16 and 33 feet in width, according to CBS News.

NASA had said that the asteroid, named 2010 TD54, was likely to burn up in the atmosphere if it veered off course and came closer to earth than expected. It expected the asteroid to come within an estimated 28,000 miles of earth’s surface.
