Bill Cosby releases statement amid rape allegations

The comedian says he will not be dignifying the allegations with comment.

BILL COSBY HAS released a statement amid growing uproar about rape and assault allegations against him.

Cosby remained silent when questioned about the claims on US radio yesterday, and a forthcoming appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman has been cancelled.

Today the actor and comedian made this statement through his lawyer:

Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true.Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment.
He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives.

One of his accusers, Barbara Bowman, wrote a piece for the Washington Post this week in which she detailed how she was drugged and raped as a teenager.

She, along with 12 other women, loaned her support to to Andrea Constand, who sued Cosby in 2006. The case was settled out of court.

The allegations are back in the spotlight after comedian Hannibal Buress discussed Cosby at a stand up show in Philadelphia and video of the speech was widely circulated online.
