BILL MURRAY’S NEW film St Vincent premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend, and there’s already Oscars buzz around his performance.

Murray stars as a drunken aul lad who ends up in an unlikely friendship with a 12-year-old boy. Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts and Roscommon’s own Chris O’Dowd also star.

Reviewers are calling St Vincent “the Bill Murray role his fans have been waiting for“, and refer to the actor as a “force of nature” in the film.

O’Dowd was in Toronto for the premiere, appropriately wearing a Bill Murray tshirt.

He told the Press Association:

He’s one of my heroes, and today I’ll be celebrating, like I do every 5th of September, which has always been Bill Murray Day for me.

The Toronto Film Festival did actually hold an official Bill Murray Day to celebrate the actor, complete with crown and sash.

O’ Dowd, who plays an Irish priest and teacher in the film explained how he celebrates Bill Murray Day:

In an hour or so we’re gonna sacrifice a goat and then we’ll just pull out its innards and make ties out of them, and then jump in the sea.

Seems legit.
