Thousands have signed a petition to take Caitlyn Jenner's Olympic medal off her

Some are saying that it’s all the work of 4chan trolling, though.

BACK IN 1976, Caitlyn Jenner – then under the name Bruce Jenner – won an Olympic gold medal in the decathlon in Montreal.

On Sunday, Caitlyn made her debut on the cover of this month’s Vanity Fair – and she has won plaudits around the world for doing so.

Now, in response, somebody has started a petition to get Caitlyn to give back the gold medal because she won it in a men’s event

cailtynjenner change.org change.org

Trying to start the hashtag #givebackthegold, the change.org petition outlines why it believes Jenner should revoke the medal:

We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best. However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this

At the time of writing, the petition has 2566 supporters.

Which has understandably not gone down well with plenty of people

But it has been discovered that the petition may have originated from this 4chan thread

Which, given that particular board’s controversial history, means that some are labelling the petition as the worst kind of trolling.

Sigh, internet.
