Cate Blanchett is president of a female dominated Cannes jury and we're so here for it

Find someone who looks at you the way Kristen Stewart looks at Cate Blanchett.

THE CANNES FILM festival has kicked off and it’s got everyone talking for all the right reasons. Mainly because this year the jury for the festival is female dominated and they all look fierce as HELL.

Cate Blanchett is the president of this year’s jury along with Kristen Steward, 13th director Ava DuVernay, Burundian singer Khadja Ni and French actress Léa Seydoux.

Also on the jury are Taiwanese actor Chang Chen, French director Rober Jules Guédiguian, French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve and Russian director Andrey Zvyahintsev.

In the official photocall, the women looked absolutely amazing but Cate Blanchett reminded us all that this shouldn’t be about looks.

However that being said, I do need to find someone who looks at me the way Kristen Stewart looks at Cate Blanchett.

With everything that has happened in Hollywood in the last few months with #MeToo and #TimesUp, a female dominated jury at one of the biggest film festivals in the world is seen as a big statement from the festival. However, according to Cate, the movement didn’t play a role in picking the jury or the films in the competition.

There are several women in competition. They are not there because of their gender, they are there because of the quality of their work. We will assess them as filmmakers, as we should be.

Fair enough. Nobody should be winning prizes or getting on juries based solely on their gender. We’re here for it.

Either way everyone seems delighted with the make up of the jury this year and we can see why. More of this please.
