What's in my makeup bag? Meggan VanderMeulen (Cardigan Jezebel)

Having a rummage through our favourite faces’ wares.

EACH WEEK, WE’LL be taking a peek into some of our faves’ makeup bags to see their must-have products, because we’re nosey. This week, it’s the turn of beauty blogger Meggan VanderMeulen (Cardigan Jezebel). You can visit her blog here and follow her on Instagram here.

Her earliest makeup memories

“Growing up makeup wasn’t a big deal to me. For as long as I can remember, I only owned a stick of black eyeliner. I was what you would have called a “scene/emo” kid.

My makeup look basically consisted of way too much eyeliner on my lower lash line and nothing else.

“I think when I turned 16 I discovered you could do cool things with eyeshadow and I basically fell in love. But, I never ditched the eyeliner. It just slowly evolved into a winged liner type thing that was somewhat reminiscent of Amy Winehouse’s signature look.

Over years and years of practice, I feel like I’ve kind of mastered a perfect sharp wing. I pretty much feel naked without it now!

Her makeup bag and what’s inside

“My makeup bag has been thoroughly scaled down lately. I was doing a lot of travelling and needed something more compact. I stumbled across this cute and very mermaid-esque bag from Penneys and had to have it.

“My favourite face products at the moment start with the J.One jelly primer. I’ve only had this for a few weeks but it’s amazing! It leaves a sticky base that really helps your makeup stay on all day long.

“Recently, I’ve been all about the glow! I love to use the YSL Glow Shot all over the high points of my face along with the Milk Holographic stick before I put on my foundation. It really helps you get the “glow from within” look. And, no matter how many foundations I try, I always come back to the Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish. I like to do my makeup and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day. It’s the perfect no-fuss product.

“I don’t use an eyeshadow primer anymore. I love using the L.A. Girl Cosmetics concealer for a base. Then, I just go in with whatever shadow I want without setting it.

“I have two palettes I couldn’t live without. One is an old favourite – the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette. It’s basically all matte shadows. You can create a multitude of looks with it. And the other is a recent fav – the BPerfect Carnival Palette. It’s such a colourful palette with endless possibilities.

“I like to keep my favourite Urban Decay shadow with me at all times – ‘Solstice’. It’s a pink shadow with blue reflects and I feel like you can use it for every occasion. That’s why I also keep the Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter in my bag too. Can you tell I like Urban Decay, by the way?

“I am truly obsessed with the Lancome Monsieur Big eyeliner pen. I think it’s a foolproof way to create all types of winged or graphic liner. And, my current favourite mascara is the Lancome Hypnose mascara!

“I would be lying if I said it all fit in that tiny bag. But, I won’t go anywhere without these products!”
