Channel 4 announcers deliberately mispronounce The Simpsons

The Crimpsons? The Rumpelstiltskins? The Skiddlybiddledoowhopadomsons?

THE CREATION OF a hit TV show is almost entirely a good thing – however keeping things fresh in a long-running series can present some challenges to people working behind the scenes.

Take The Simpsons, for example – after almost a quarter of a century (yep) of the Springfield crew gracing our television screen, it’s easy to image writers facing creative block when trying to produce new content.

So spare a thought too for continuity announcers who, after 23 seasons and almost 500 episodes, probably live in fear of developing mind-specific repetitive stress disorder thanks to the programme.

That might explain the seemingly deliberate attempts by some announcers to mispronounce show’s name a few weeks ago – although when contacted by TheJournal.ie, Channel 4 swore that this was absoulunkley not the case:

Channel 4 would like to make it perfectly clear that at no point has there been any mispronunciation by any of the on-air announcers. Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply hearing thongs. We take very seriously our commitment to shows like The Wilsons.
