8 cheap and cheerful Ryanair destinations to visit this summer

For the frugal among you.

NOW THAT FEBRUARY is upon us, many of you are likely fantasising about where to go on holidays this summer.

But where can you go when cash is in short supply?

Here we present eight Ryanair destinations that are cheap and easy to get to.

1. Zadar, Croatia

Why you should go there: Because Alfred Hitchcock once said that it had the most beautiful sunset in the world.

Things to do: Visit the city’s ancient Roman ruins, tuck into Dalmatian cuisine, chill out by the world’s only “sea organ” and sample the local wine.

2. Cologne, Germany

Why you should go there: Because you’ve been to Berlin and it’s time to expand your horizons.

Things to do: Drop by this community-run beer garden, take in the majesty of Cologne Cathedral, get your postmodern art on at Museum Ludwig and go for a cable car adventure.

3. Tallinn, Estonia

Why you should go there: Because it might be the prettiest city you’ll ever step foot in.

Things to do: Look at the world’s largest collection of sheep in Tallinn Zoo, go for a pint in this Scotland Yard-themed pub and stroll around the fascinating Russian market.

4. Marrakesh, Morocco

Why you should go there: Because it’s quite unlike anywhere else.

Things to do: Feel glam in the Jardin Majorelle, eat out in this charming non-profit restaurant, get lost in the souks and be awestruck by Bahia Palace.

5. Krakow, Poland

Why you should go there: Because it’s ideal for a weekend break.

Things to do: Take a trip to this stunning salt mine, have a pint in this hipster hangout, wile away a day in this incredible book emporium, and make the worthwhile journey to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

6. Copenhagen, Denmark

Why you should go there: Because it’s one of the coolest cities in the world and it finally won’t cost you an arm and a leg to actually get there. (Also, you’ll probably bump into half of Ireland there after last week’s Ryanair sale.)

Things to do: Gawk at hipsters in Vesterbro, wander around Nyhavn, take in the magic of the Tivoli Gardens and dine out in any of the city’s celebrated eateries.

7. Brussels, Belgium

Why you should go there: Because there’s a lot more to it than European bureaucracy, you know.

Things to do: Step back in time in this cocktail bar, snap a photo of this peeing mannequin, become a comic book nerd, and, of course, drop by Penneys

8. Bratislava, Slovakia

Why you should go there: Because it’s a nice alternative to other city breaks, and is also ridiculously close to Vienna and Prague.

Things to do: Tour the city‘s socialist past in a 1970s Skoda, spend time in the “old town“, explore the city’s thriving beer culture and admire old clocks in the aptly named Museum of Clocks
