Eenmaal/Facebook

How many of these things are you brave enough to do alone?

Do you dine alone, or go solo to the cinema? Where do you draw the line?

A POP-UP restaurant  in Amsterdam this week set a challenge to people to dine alone.

The eaterie – called Eenmaal – was set up with tables and chairs for one, which meant that eating solo was the only option.

The experiment was executed by creator Marina van Goor in an effort to do away with the stigma of dining alone, according to LoweCounsel.com.

Of course, there is quite a difference between going to a restaurant designed for solo eaters and dining on your own in a busy venue surrounded by couples and groups.

So, how many of these things are you brave enough to try alone?

Dinner for one

Forget Eenmaal, would you head along to a restaurant of an evening on your own? How about doing it on a Friday or Saturday night?

What about if you had to leave your phone at home or in your bag/pocket? What then?

On the plus side, you could order chips without the fear of someone eating them all. And you’d be well within your rights to drink a whole bottle of wine.

Solo cinema trip

This is not so much of a challenge during the day, when the theatres are fairly empty and you’ll probably have a whole row to yourself anyway.

What about an evening showing though, or at the weekend? Would you be okay with a ticket for one?

A gig on your own

Going to a show or concert on your own is a tricky one, because if you go along to see the support act here’s that lonely hinterland in the middle between the opening band and the main show.

There’s also the questions of whether you stand there alone nursing your drink, or if you attempt to strike up a conversation with a stranger.

Could you do it?

Holidaying alone

This is much more of a commitment than dining alone, or going to a gig or the cinema solo.

You’d be travelling alone, checking in alone, dining alone, sightseeing alone.

Is that your idea of heaven or hell?

Going stag to a wedding

Would you go alone to a wedding where you don’t really know anybody?

To be fair, it’s probably the one place where you would no choice but to make friends.

How many of these situations would you be comfortable in? Let us know in the comments section…
